The Lead columns page
The page is titled Lead columns (“The fields on People and Companies, including ones you add.”). Two toggles at the top switch between People and Companies, each with a count of its active fields. Each row shows the field’s name, its key and its type.Built-in fields
Every organization gets the same built-in fields the first time the page is opened.- People: Email, LinkedIn URL, First Name, Last Name, Full Name, Job Title, Profile Picture, Phone.
- Companies: Domain, Company Name, Company LinkedIn.
Add a field

Use the toggle above the list.
2
Name it
Type the name in the New person field… or New company field… box. Names must be unique within People or within Companies, ignoring case.
3
Pick a type
Choose from Text, Number, Currency, Checkbox, Date, URL, Email, Image from URL, Select, Multi-select or JSON.
4
Click Add field
The field is created straight away.
Keys never change
Every field gets a key made from its name when you create it. It starts withx_, followed by the name in lowercase with other characters turned into underscores, for example Company Size (2024) becomes x_company_size_2024. If that key is taken, a number is added.
The key is permanent. Renaming a field changes only its label, never its key. That keeps anything that points at the key stable.
Rename a field
Click the name in the row, edit it, then press Enter or click away. Press Escape to cancel. A rename only touches the label.Change a field’s type
Use the type dropdown on the row. Only these conversions are supported:- Any type to Text.
- Text to Number, Checkbox, Date or Multi-select.
- Number: only plain numbers such as
42or-3.5. - Checkbox:
true,t,yes,y,1for yes andfalse,f,no,n,0for no. - Date: values that start with
YYYY-MM-DD. - Multi-select: the text split on commas.
Remove, restore and delete
Removing and deleting are two separate steps on purpose.- Remove hides the field everywhere but keeps its data. It’s reversible. Removed fields collect under Removed fields at the bottom of the page.
- Restore brings a removed field back with its data.
- Delete permanently erases the field and strips its values from every person (or company) in your organization. It can’t be undone, and restoring a field you re-create later won’t bring the data back. A field must be removed before it can be deleted.
Where the values live and how you find them
Custom values are stored on each person or company under their field key, so adding, renaming, retyping or removing a field never alters the underlying database table. Searching on the Leads page also looks inside these values.Using data as merge fields
Merge fields in your messages come from the columns you kept when importing a list, not from this page. An unmapped column such asJob Title is saved as jobTitle and used as {{jobTitle}}. See Import leads for the rules, and Email campaigns for using them in a sequence.
In the code today, the values of fields defined on this page aren’t resolved as merge fields, and the Leads table doesn’t show them as columns. Use this page to define and organize fields, and use imported columns for merge fields.
